A New Jersey native, Dr. Femano attended Montclair Kimberley Academy for high school before earning his Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering from Rutgers University School of Engineering, graduating Magna Cum Laude. Dr. Femano's orthopedic surgery residency was completed at Aultman Hospital, a high-volume trauma center in Canton, Ohio, where he ranked in the top 8% on national orthopedic surgery in-training exams. During his residency, he served as Chief Resident and as a Clinical Instructor of Orthopedic Surgery at Northeast Ohio Medical University. He further specialized with a fellowship in upper extremity surgery at the prestigious Kettering Health Network in Dayton, Ohio, focusing on hand, upper extremity, and microvascular surgery. Dr. Femano has extensive experience in trauma and reconstruction of the upper extremities, including microsurgery and the treatment of bone, ligament, tendon, and nerve pathologies. He has also presented multiple research posters and lectures at national orthopedic conferences.
Dr. Femano is committed to providing the latest, evidence-based care to his patients. He is affiliated with several professional organizations, including the American Society for Surgery of the Hand. His practice offers in-office surgeries for patients who prefer a relaxed, time-efficient, and cost-effective setting. Known as WALANT (Wide Awake Local Anesthesia No Tourniquet) surgery, this option allows patients to undergo procedures without sedation, often compared to the experience of a routine dental visit.
Patients appreciate Dr. Femano's down-to-earth demeanor, collaborative approach to decision-making, and meticulous dedication to their care. He is known for his outstanding bedside manner and commitment to tailoring care to each patient's specific needs.
Outside of work, Dr. Femano volunteers his time and skills on surgical missions, most recently in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, sponsored by the Christian Medical Association. He enjoys traveling and spending time with his loving wife, Shannon Urena, PA-C, and their family.
